In the Wake of His Breath

"And God said, 'let there be light'; and there was light" (Genesis 1:3)

When God speaks, everything obeys. There is nothing outside of the domain of His sovereign Word. Galaxies are born at the power of His voice. When he speaks, the mountains shake and the oceans stir. At the sound of His Word, the dead are raised and blind men see. Who can fathom the greatness of the One who reigns by the power of His Word?

Yet this God who spoke light into existence also speaks through written words. He spoke through prophets and kings. He speaks to us in Scripture. And even more, He has spoken to us through His Son, Jesus Christ: the Living Word of God (Heb. 1:1-2). And by the Living Word, this Light that became flesh, darkness and death will tremble. Shadows are cast out of the heart and fear out of the mind. In the wake of His breath, hearts are turned from stone to flesh (Ezek. 36:26).

My friend, the point is this, that God speaks to you. By His written Word and His Spirit, He calls you from darkness into His glorious Light (1 Pet. 2:9, Jn. 12:46). And in this Light is the life of men. He shined into the darkness, and the darkness could not overcome it (Jn.1:1-4).

The Light shines and shame is gone. The Morning Star rises and darkness disappears. Fear falls. Death is defeated. Oh my friend, there is victory in Jesus Christ the Word of God. We triumph over Satan not because of what man says but because of what God has spoken.

Oh my friend, what fears are you feeling? What trials have a hold of your heart? What storm is overtaking you at this moment? Let me tell you that there is healing! But this healing isn't found in food, or relationships, or psychiatrists. No, the balm for your hurting soul is found in God and God alone. As you call upon Him and He speaks to your heart through His Word, you will know a peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7).

God, the One who spoke the universe into existence, speaks to the broken heart. So come! Come to the Word and to the throne and bring your burdens. Lay them at the feet of the Healer. Open the Word of God and let His promises speak to you. Preach the truths of God to your soul.

Look to the Word and have your heart be filled. Look to the cross and see the Lamb who sympathizes with your weakness. Look to the empty tomb and see the victory over death and darkness. See the glorious truth in the Word that one day every wrong will be made right. Every story will be fulfilled. Every tear will be wiped away. Why is this so? Because God has spoken. And in the wake of His breath, eternity obeys.
